Catan is made up of several factors that make the game highly replayable. It is played on a hexagonal board, where players place their towns and cities. Each hexagon has a number, which changes game after game. The numbers are the sum of the dice, which are rolled with each roll. Depending on the odds of a number being more or less common, the number is either big and red (more likely to appear), big (high probability), medium, or small.

Players who have a city adjacent to a city with an outgoing number receive from that hexagon. There are five resources: the wood that is collected in the forests, the clay that is produced in the hills, the wool that is produced by pastures, the cereals that are produced by crops and the minerals that are produced in the mountains.

With these resources, you can build more towns, roads, transform towns into cities or buy development cards. Depending on the player's strategy, he manages his resources to obtain victory points.

It is possible that a player may not have the type of resources they need. In this case, during one phase of their turn, they can exchange their resources with other players. The cost of switching depends on what is convenient for each player, and during the game it can vary according to the players' interests. Another option is to have a city in a port, which are located on the edges of the board where the costs are marked on the board, or, if there is no other option, exchange four cards from one resource for a card from another resource.

Each game depends on a combination of the placement of hexagons, towns, numbers and players. Data affects the outcome of a game very little, as a game is the sum of each player's resource management decisions. The player who manages his resources best will be the winner of the match.

Catan is won with victory points, which are generated when players place towns, cities, have the longest route, the largest army or when they buy development cards that can give victory points.

Although there are many factors that can affect a game, it is a very quick and easy game to explain. There are few mechanics in the game and a limited number of decisions you can make. Decisions players make often have an immediate effect and impact paths to victory not only for the active player, but for all other players as well.

Catan is a game where there is a lot of interaction between players. For example, when a player rolls the dice for a seven, that player moves the thief. The thief is a token on the board that prohibits the generation of resources in the hexagon where it is placed.

Catan is perfectly balanced, so victories are won with very little margin. Every player is invested in the game until the end. During the game and according to the decisions made, each player has the possibility of winning until the last moment.
